Barnes & Noble put this book on their list of recommendations, and they were 100% right to do so. I was oblivious to all the hype surrounding Defending Jacob prior to its release…I only learned about it through the e-mails I get from B&N. I’m not a big crime-suspense-thriller-courtroom-novel kind of girl, but I’m so glad I decided to read this.
The book is written through the point of view of Andy Barber, who is a district attorney with a knack for sarcasm. When a teenager is murdered in his town, Andy ends up being suspended from his job because his 14-year-old son, Jacob, is charged with the murder. As the novel progresses, you find yourself emotionally involved in it. Torn about Jacob’s innocence. Cheering for Andy’s persistence. Heartbroken over his wife’s (Laurie) diminishing faith. It gets to the point where the book feels like a race and you’re racing along with it to find out what happens in the end. But once you get to that ending…oh my GOD. You think you have it all figured out and BAM, mindfuck.
This book was everything. Funny, gut-wrenching, mysterious. Everything you could possibly feel while reading a book, you will feel x1000 when you read Defending Jacob. Even found myself holding back some tears. I recently found out that this book will be converted to the big screen in the near future -_- my suggestion to all is not only to read this book, but DO IT BEFORE HOLLYWOOD RUINS IT. Go read it. Right now.
I’m PMSing super hard…there’s no cable until further notice…and the only room with decent temperature in my house is the bedroom, so I’m laying in bed at 10pm with no fucking TV & no chocolate & raging hormones with nothing to do except think.
There’s nothing….and I do mean NOTHING….more dangerous than to be left alone in your thoughts.
Mmk, massive photo spam over. Here’s a throwback song to make amends.
Mi mujer & I all ready to head out for our day of hiking/kayaking!
(Idk why the hell there’s a random dimple by my chin o_o)
